The Men's Restroom at Two in the Morning

By H.G. Miller

Getting away from the noise
And the fighting
I treaded my way across
Gray industrial carpet
Trying to find a quiet place
I got in there
And my headache faded
Polished marble silence embraced me
Emergency lighting put shadows on my face
I couldn't even hear the water running
What a place to find serenity
A tornado hideaway
A bomb shelter
My quiet, tiled retreat
